We meet for worship at the Meeting House but you are still able to join us via Zoom.
Contact: [email protected] for Zoom data (see link on Contact Us page). Quaker Meeting is very simple. When we meet on Sundays we sit together "listening" for "that of God within us". There is no pre-arranged service or ceremony and no minister in charge. When someone feels moved to, they stand and share out loud with the Meeting. Ministry may be a thought or a prayer, a question or even a song. Whatever they share will enrich the Meeting going forwards. At Sutton Coldfield, sometimes our Meetings for Worship can be completely silent; when there is spoken Ministry it usually relates to personal experience and social situations. |
Quakers Condemn Crackdown on Right to Protest __________________________________________________________ Quakers have joined 45 other groups in writing to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to warn of the chilling effect of new legislation and policing powers. Writing to Rishi Sunak in the wake of his comments on extremism and 'mob rule', signatories including Greenpeace, Liberty and Amnesty International raised concerns over the government's divisive language. Use of terms such as 'extremism' and 'hate mobs' has sought to demonise overwhelmingly peaceful protests calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and Israel, the letter said. The government should stop conflating protests with extremism and “refrain from amplifying divisive language which could inflames tensions within and between communities," they said. Paul Parker, recording clerk for Quakers in Britain, said: “As Quakers, we are called by our faith to stand up against injustice. Draconian anti-protest laws limit our ability to speak truth to power from a position of conscience. “Instead of stirring up division, the government should facilitate the right of everyone to have their voices heard and set a reasoned tone for discussion." __________________________________________________________ click for :Quakers condemn crackdown on right to protest |
But in the Silence and in the Ministry, and most definitely together, we find ourselves rested, refreshed, strengthened, inspired... and ready to live as best we can for another week.
At the end of the hour we share news followed by a drink, a biscuit, and a lot of chat with each other.
Children are welcome. Please advise us on the "Contact us" form when bringing children so we can plan appropriate activities. Our children usually join us in Meeting for the first 15 minutes or so. They then have their own supervised activities for the rest of the hour.
Other things that we do include regular meals together, study groups, prayer groups, and an ad hoc programme of walks, outings and other social events.
NOTE: On the FOURTH SUNDAY OF THE MONTH our Quaker Meeting for Worship is held at 3pm instead of 10:30am.
